Why Do I Need a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is used to fill the gap left by a missing tooth or if you’re preparing to have a tooth extracted. It’s also a great option for patients who aren’t good candidates for dental implants.
Bridges help prevent surrounding teeth from shifting out of place, which can lead to misalignment, bite problems, and a crooked smile. In just two quick dental visits, you can have a bridge that restores your smile and maintains a healthy bite.
Why Might You Need a Dental Crown?
How Long Does Getting a Crown Take?
Typically, getting a crown requires 1 to 2 visits, depending on your specific treatment needs.
During the first appointment, your dentist at Diamond Family Dental will prepare your tooth and take an impression or digital scan. Your custom crown will then be crafted and either placed the same day or at a follow-up visit, depending on the condition of your tooth.
Be sure to ask Dr. Yousif about the possibility of a same-day crown using the advanced CEREC® CAD/CAM technology. This innovative system allows crowns to be designed and created right in the office—often in under an hour.
Are Crowns and Bridges a Permanent Solution?
Crowns and bridges are strong, long-lasting restorations that can typically last eight years or more. With excellent oral hygiene and regular dental care, some patients enjoy crowns and bridges that last a lifetime.
While the crown or bridge itself may eventually need replacement, the treatment is considered permanent because your natural tooth (or teeth) is carefully shaped during preparation to serve as a stable anchor, known as an abutment. Replacement is necessary only if the crown or bridge becomes damaged or falls off.
It’s important to note that while crowns and bridges don’t decay, the underlying teeth and surrounding gums remain vulnerable to damage or decay. This can lead to loosening or failure of the restoration. Maintaining daily brushing and flossing habits, along with routine dental checkups, helps protect your oral health and prolong the life of your dental work.
